Prayer

Sunday was one of those days where everything fell in to place--kind of.

You know those days...where every discussion I was a part of, the sermon I hear, the topic of youth group--was exactly what I needed to hear, were the song lyrics I needed to hear.

To keep from typing a novel--let me share our youth group discussion.

Prayer.

There are FOUR different types of prayer:

ADORATION
"adoring God for WHO He is: Savior, Shepherd, Lord, Refuge, Strength"
CONFESSION
"not just saying I am sorry, but true repentance and change of heart"
THANKSGIVING
"thanking God for WHAT He has done"
SUPPLICATION
"asking God to meet a need - for yourself or someone else"

We had some prayer stations set up for the youth--one for each type of prayer.  I took some pictures after the kids went home:

This was the prayer of Supplication station.  The youth were urged to light candles for family or friends who needed prayer, and then spend time praying for them.  It was beautiful-

Prayer of Adoration--they were urged to write down words of praise/names for our Lord Jesus.

Awesome, huh?

I'm just reminded about how important prayer is--it's not just words.  It's not praying because I feel I have to.  I pray because prayer is communicating with my Creator.
Why do you pray?  How do you pray? Where/when do you pray?

  1. Love this! Your church does so many great things with the youth!! I prayer everyday, sometime throughout the day. And it could be just little things like. Please get me through this class without yawning! lol or more serious ones. I pray each morning when I awake and go to sleep too.

Prayer is my favorite thing to do!

  3. I love those times when everything seems meant for me - because it is! It's good to be that way - it means your heart is soft and tender :)
